Forschungsprojekt ::
Sound Formation

Projektbeschreibung

PhD research project. It explores how practices of sounding and listening can become part of a “thinking-with sounds” in order to produce and distribute knowledge according to other modes. It therefore asks to which extent aesthetic practices, mostly through sound, can also lead to the production of valuable knowledge in sociology. It is a combination of sociological research and artistic practices dealing with questions of agency and individuation, the situation of knowledge in sociology and sound, and ethico-aesthetics. The three projects below constitute some of the aesthetic practices at the core of this “research-creation” work.

This project will soon be published by transcript Verlag, including not only the written thesis, but also an audio chapter, proposing a different narration. In this, the project is more a proposal than a result, an invitation to work towards a sociological “thinking-with sounds”, expanding which epistemic practices might be included in the research process within sociological theory.
