How is patience in adolescence linked to lifestyle in adulthood?

The purpose of this project is to examine how patience and time discounting in childhood are associated with living the good life in late midlife.
The specific aims of the project are to determine:

• How patience and time discounting in childhood are associated with a wide range of outcomes in late midlife (ages 50 and 60), including income, income composition, physical and mental health, financial situation, partnership stability, and labour market participation.
• Whether mothers’ patience is associated with their children’s outcomes in late midlife.
• Whether there are gender differences in the relationships between time discounting/patience and later life outcomes.
• Which factors might account for any associations between time discounting/patience and later life outcomes, examining the role of educational attainment as well as factors such as prior labour market status, income, home ownership and health.
